What does 'post-consumer' mean?

At wordwisdomart.com, post-consumer items are incorporated as much as possible into each finished piece. We take the scraps of end-cuts of fabric (all washed and cleaned) and use them in the messenger bags and amulet necklaces. We use scraps of wood to create the accent pieces for the Dream Board Kits and the Series collage. We use paper that has been thrown away to create the Dream pillows, and the Scraps of Wisdom collages. For Tim Parks rings, he uses grade 8 stainless steel motorcycle nuts.
